Export RVT linked files into IFC

Hello everyone,

I have  an Rvt "mother file" with two rvt linked files and i need to export them as one into a IFC file.

When i did that, it only opened the Rvt "mother file"...and left a blank space of the two linked files.

How can i export this whole project to became a single IFC file?

Many thanks

Hi @jjjoao2

You can't directly, you have to convert the links into groups (link tool). I recommend that you do not do it in your usual work file but do a Save as and in that copy "links".

1. The steps would be:

  • Save as ... and in that file "Link links" (convert them into groups).
  • If there are many links, it can cause performance problems, and some geometries need to be checked. It is recommended to audit and purge each link first.

2. Another alternative outside of Revit is to load all the links into Navisworks and export them to a single IFC with Codemill IFC Exporter.

Short answer, you can not. There are no settings for this. The only export option you have is to export the linked IFC files. But they sill will be exported as separate files.

Revit Export Linked IFC.png

Normally you only want to export your own parts and not the content of others (linked files). Those files are under responsibility of those parties and they should make their own IFC's. With coordination software (e.g Navisworks) you would bring those files together in a single file for clashing and so on.

Longer answer you could bind the Linked IFC's in your Revit file, making it a single Revit projects. For this you would first need to open The IFC (resulting in an rvt file) and this file can be imported into Revit. WIth the single Revit file you can export a single IFC

Other route might be to merge the IFCs. There seem to be some third party tools who can do this.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

@Jamhmer_Oc ,

I´ve downloaded the Codmill IFC Exporter for Navisworks, but after exporting and opens in Revit....there´s no model, it´s like empty.

Is theres any previous configuration in the IFC Exporter?

Thanks
