Hi everyone,
I am working on Revit Architectural modelling and IFC exporting. The created model includes some groups ("generic models" in Revit), which seem to be segmented to the individual parts. I wonder whether it is possible to export each group as an element in IFC.
I am a beginner at IFC, so I hope I have clearly stated.

Hi,
It currently isn't possible to export a group as one element to IFC.
See this AKN Article https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/E...
I have attached the Autodesk Revit to IFC Manual/ Handbook that might give you more info.

Thanks very much for your answer and the documentation is really useful for me.
But would you mind if I ask you another question? In my model, there also exist some in-place generic models. I am not sure whether they would be exported to IFC as integrated elements or separate parts?
In summary, my model consists of (1) components created by "Family", (2) in-place generic models and (3) groups. Now, it is necessary for me to change the groups to "Families" for IFC exporting. So how about in-place generic models?
I hope I make my question clear, and I really appreciate your help.
Best regards,
Sure thing.
I would recommend assigning a more specific category to your generic in-place family and then yes, you would need to create a family out of the groups you would like to export as one element.
I stand to be correct, but as far as I am aware, when you export your in-place family it will still export as a family created within the family creation environment would.
It's only a pleasure - let me know if you have more questions ![]()
