Exploding 3D Import Symbols - Pros and Cons

Hi all,

I'm working with a downloaded WC family where the WC pan object is an 'Import Symbol'. I suspect it was modelled in another piece of software and imported. I can explode this object so that it becomes a solid 'Free Form Element'. This allows me to add a material parameter, link it into nested families and control it properly, etc. This is all good!

My question is whether there are any downsides to exploding an 'Import Symbol' that I'm not aware of. What are the pros and cons of exploding imported geometry? Note that I'm talking about 3D objects here, not 2D CAD drawings. We always link 2D CAD data and do not import/explode as that definitely does cause problems.

Cheers,

Nik
