Errors With Accuracy When Importing DWG File

Hi,

I have imported DWG/AutoCAD files into Revit previously without any issues. However, when I have tried to import a specific few files I am getting inaccuracy.

Accurately drawn file in AutoCAD:

AutoCAD drawing that has been imported into Revit and lost accuracy:

The displayed error message when importing:

If anyone has any idea as to whats happening I would appreciate any help!

Likely there are elements in the CAD import that are located far away from Revit's Internal Origin and/or each other.  Elements need to be within a 10 mile radius of the Internal Origin within Revit.   You need to move all those elements closer to the Internal Origin in Revit.

Let's have a look at your DWG. Post it here.

I'd modify Barth's comment sightly, and say that:

You need to move all those elements closer to the Internal Origin in AutoCAD.

There are two possibilities:

1.) The DWG has something drawn far, far from the 0,0,0 point (likely miles or hundreds of miles away)

2.) The entire DWG is many miles from 0,0,0

First (in ACAD) try drawing a Line from where ever that stair is to 0,0,0.

Then do a Zoom Extents. It will probably look like everything disappeared, but it's just super far away.

Make sure you Turn ON and THAW all Layers

If it's #2, (in ACAD) SELECT ALL and Move close to 0,0,0

If it's #1, delete the Line, and then other stuff until you can do a ZOOM EXTENTS and see the entire DWG

You'l probably have to remove and re-Link the DWG in Revit

Don't know why what I said needs to be modified.  What I said was "elements in the CAD import that are located far away from Revit's Internal Origin and/or each other", and that the solution to this would be to "move all those elements closer to the Internal Origin in Revit."   Pretty much what you reiterated and expanded upon.

The OP could also simply ignore the minor inaccuracies.  I mean, if the OP is simply using a portion of the CAD as a reference to model Revit elements -- and does not intend to keep the CAD resident in the Revit Project -- then he could simply position that portion closer to the Internal Origin, create Revit elements based on it, and then get rid of the CAD reference.

Or, he could WBLOCK out the CAD line work he needs, modify the DWG to move the line work closer to the 0,0,0 origin, and import that DWG into Revit instead.

Or...

set your viewres in autocad to 20000 value. don't import cad to revit, use link cad and try to untick or tick correct lines that are slightly off axis and see if helps. thanks
