In Revit 2017.2 (family editor) on Windows 10 Pro, I am trying to reorganize parameters in a door panel family that someone else created long ago for firm standards. When I used "Move parameter up [or down]" for some of the default parameters that Revit adds to the door family template and clicked Apply, it gave me the error message in the snapshot below.
It won't highlight which sweep or reference planes are affected. I tried selecting/showing the elements by ID, but it says "No good view could be found" for the Reference Planes, and it says "The following Element IDs can't be selected in this mode: 7225795" for the dimension. I was able to highlight the sweep, but I'm not sure what the difference is after accepting the error prompt to remove constraints. I want to make sure I'm not deleting anything important to the family's functioning. I wouldn't think just moving parameters around in the same group would affect constraints, so I'm confused by this error.
Thanks for your response @barthbradley - attached is the door panel family that gave me the error.
Doesn't help. Need to see the file with the Warnings.
BTW: this Door is fine from what I can tell. Error-free in the Family, as well as the Project.
I don't have it in a project file yet. The .rfa file doesn't show the error yet because it makes me "Remove Constraints" or else delete the elements in order to continue with the reordering I was doing and save.
To see the error, try opening Family Types in the file I sent, select the first parameter under the Dimensions group called "Height" (which is grayed out), and use the "Move parameter down" button until it is at the bottom of the Dimensions group. When you click Apply (maybe a couple of times and then OK), the error should pop up. If not, try moving the grayed out Thickness parameter to the bottom too under Height. Thanks!
Like this:
...try expanding all the Group Under Categories before trying.
Yes and then Apply. You may have to move Thickness down below Height and click Apply again and maybe OK.
I can replicate your issue if leave only Dimensions expanded and collapse all the other Groups.
Ultimately, I am trying to get it into the order shown in the snapshot below to match the organizational logic of other families, but the error stops me before I can move more than a couple of parameters. The first time I tried, I had moved all the parameters before getting the error, so I kept trying to move just a couple after that.
Yes, all groups have been expanded for most of my attempts. For one attempt, I tried collapsing all but Dimensions, and I still got the error. I collapsed the groups just momentarily to take the snapshot.
You got any Add-Ins? If so, try disabling them.
I'll try disabling add-ins and see. I have to keep the family in 2017 because some of our projects are still in 2017.
I received the message below when opening the family with add-ins disabled. Might this be a problem? Also, it still gave me the same constraint error message. I was able to move a couple more parameters before it did so.
