Error Message: “Revit cannot import some of the geometry"

Hi There,

I'm in the process of importing SAT files (saved from SolidWorks) into Revit and I’m having trouble importing all of the geometry from said files. My current approach is as follows:

Prep in SolidWorks – save assembly files as part files and outside surfaces.

Export to SAT (7.0 or earlier to be compatible with Revit).

In Revit – insert>import CAD.

Previously there have been no issues with this approach but now Revit isn’t displaying all the geometry of the parts, both for previously created Revit files and Sat files imported in the current session. The error message is as follows:

“Revit cannot import some of the geometry.

This result can be caused by various issues with the source file. Adjust the geometry in the file and try the import process again.”

So far I’ve tried both purging and defeaturing the original SolidWorks assembly but this doesn’t seem to be affecting the output in Revit. I’m wondering if this might be something to do with overly complex geometry, but confused as to why this hasn’t been a problem up until now?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Try to match the Units of import.

1. check the units for ex ( meters )

2. while importing use "METERS"

Best luck

Can you share the SAT file?

Hi, yes here are a couple of the SAT files I've tried to import. Its a wall mounted writing board, when I import the file there is an extrusion missing from the top & most of the other files I've imported are missing all extrusions along the edge and just show the board.

Hi @Anonymous

Can you try exporting as an STL file format and see if this helps?

You can try saving save assemblies as part files in SolidWorks and then try the import.

If this is a wall-mounted writing board - you can create this in Revit by extrusions and sweeps.

Hi all,

I have encountered the same problem as above that Revit cannot import some of the geometry where I downloaded the 3ds max model and export the model as .dwg, it shows me the error message. Any solution?

Thank you!!

Hi @Anonymous

Can you share the model to test? Make sure you have the latest updates installed for your Revit and 3dsMax version.

I can send you a private upload folder if you'd prefer.

Regards,

I am having the same problem with a rhino file I created to import into a project. I have tried exporting as an .SAT and just .3DM and it still continues to say the error message. Did anyone find a way to fix this?

Same here importing DWG and SAT files I get this msg :

Revit cannot import some of the geometry.
This result can be caused by various issues with the source file.Adjust the geometry in the file and try the import process again.

Trying to get this chair into the model:

https://downloads.fritzhansen.com/asset-bank/action/browseItems?categoryId=1136&categoryTypeId=1

It worked with Sketchup file but trying to see if when imported with SAT I will get less polylines as it is going to be a Nurb not a Mesh. I need a clean 2d outline of the chair for the client to see it and not this :

Hi,

I have the same problem. I cannot import the tree in the dwg file into the Revit planting family. Have you found any solutions? The dwg comes from 3ds max and the tree has a lot of details (leaves, branches). Does the revit support this kind of detailed geometry?

Thanks
