Error Loading Component: Shared Parameter cannot be added...

Hi y'all,

I've come across a reoccurring issue when loading up some Revit Families - particularly from Kohler.
Typically I just find another model to use and move on, but it's happened enough times now that I'd like to sort out a solution.

Seems to be an issue with the naming of some parameters within the family model. I've attached a screen shot of the error messages I'm getting for one model in particular. They're all relatively the same across the board, so I figure if I can sort this one out, I can fix the rest of them too.

You have two conflicting shared parameters using the exact same GUID (because they are from different  SP text files).  To resolve, you need to create a new shared parameter to replace the conflicting one.   If that Shared Parameter is used by multiple families in your Project, then you will need to replace the conflicting SP in each family.

...by "conflicting", I mean that the parameter type is different. In your case, one is a Number and one is a Length.

...when using other's families that have Shared Parameters, it is best to their Export Parameters to your own SP Text File.  This process will discover those issues, since you can't have two of the same in one text file.

@Anonymous  - I would also be leery of manufacturer families - they do come with all kinds of redundancy and extraneous parameters that you really don't need. Screen them carefully, purge out what you don't need.
