ERROR CODE 1603

Hello Autodesk community

I have recently tried to install Revit 2016 on Windows 10. When I first upgraded to Windows 10 there was no issues as I kept my programs from Windows 7, I ran a clean format on Windows 10 to speed up my system. When I tried to install Revit 2016 on the new clean formatted Windows 10 it was constantly failing. on the log files it kept coming up with;

Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable ATL Security Update (x64) Failed Installation aborted, Result=1603

I have had many attempts to fix the issue such as;

- Replacing the C++ 2005 file by uninstalling it and install the one from the Microsoft website

- Clearing the %TEMP% folder and starting the installation again

- Replacing the existing C++ 2005 file and inserting the one from Microsoft into the setup file before installation

- Turning off the firewall systems and Windows Defender

- Running the install as ADMINISTRATOR (which I had done for all the attempts)

- Uninstalling all the Microsoft Visual C++ files and install them from the Microsoft website one by one

I have been on this for 3 days and have got nowhere with it, I would really appreciate any help

you will need to uninstall ALL .NET and VS C++ files first.

Reboot your system

use the .NET Removal tool from Microsoft

Reboot your system again

install Autodesk software

reboot again

use windows update to get your updated .NET and C++ files back

reboot again

Hi,

thank you for your reply I followed your steps as described but unfortunatly the same thing happened and got the same error code. There aren't any issues with the other C++ files as they succesfully download its still the 2005 C++.

I have tried other sulotions such as;

- changing the temp file location for the installation

- change the settings for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

But still got nowhere...

forgot to mention...clear the windows temp subfolder too before reinstalling

disable all anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.

verify installation files are not corrupt...download them again

Hi found the solution!,

The issue had to do with the administration.when I checked to see if any of the files had been corrupted (as you mentioned) I checked the log files and found out there was a duplicated account on the OS. So the problem had to do with windows 10 not the Revit software.

solution: I DOWNLOADED a new Windows 10 OS from the microsoft website rather than formatting it from system setting, and didn't sign in using a Micosoft account when format was finished. The C++ 2005 installed without any problems and Revit was installed very swiftly.

The issue here was with Microsofts, they offer different versions of their W10 OS and they have different properties with regards to their settings and drivers.
