I know how you  create equal dimensions with a string of dimensions but how do you maintain equality when they are separate dimensions?

What I want to do is ensure the two dimensions marked in red are equal without having to actually work what it is and type it in!!

Thanks

Is it a family?  Then a string of EQ EQ to the center reference plane of the family should suffice.

You cannot have revit maintain equality in the way you are looking for. However, if absolutely necessary due to firm-specific graphic standards, there is a way to get the desired results.

  1. Constrain the window between the two walls with the standard revit method (set EQ on the dim string),
  2. Delete the dim string, but don't unconstrain when it prompts you to do so.
  3. Add each of your dimension strings on either side and manually override the text to read "EQ".

This will give you a window that stays centered on the wall, with the graphic dimensions on either side. Please note, the manually set "EQ" text is prone to resetting if you edit the host wall or change the window family.

you can use a Calculation formula for the Dimension:

  • Select the opening
  • then select a side dimension , and apply the formula:
  • (Wall length dimension) - (Opening Dimension) / (divide) by 2
