EQ Function Adjusts End Element

I am having a problem where the EQ function on a dimension string is adjusting the end element rather than the center element. For example, I would like to place a component centered between two lines 10' apart by just hitting the "EQ" on a dimension string. Typically, the result is a spacing of 5';5'. However, if I start with a spacing of 4';6', I end up with one line moving to make a spacing of 4',4'.  When I try to lock the lines, I get an error.... When I use walls instead of lines it works just fine. I am using Revit LT 2016.

You need to help Revit figure out what you have in mind. Telling revit to make both EQ; Revit will wonder ...is it

  • 4'-4' (ie: should Revit respect the smaller dist?)
  • or 5'-5' (ie: should Revit respect the total dist 4+6 = 10 :2)
  • or 6'-6' (ie: should Revit respect the larger dist?

Revit picks to respect the smaller dist!! ... if you place a third dim line between the first line and the third line (10') and lock it => Revit will understand that you need EQ dist with 10' total (you dont lock the 4 & 6 dim lines

To help revit also understand which line you want to fix in place;

  1. You can lock the (only) one in the middle => the two outer ones will adjust to 5
  2. You can lock (only) one of the outer ones (the first OR the Last) => the middel will move to adjust it self EQ from both

Combinations may varry to suit what fits best

I did all of this and yet it still will move the lines. I have a locked dim from the first to last line, still moves it. I pinned the first and last line, still moves it. I move the first or last line back into position and it moves the end line. It will still move the group of lines endlessly. Absolutely impossible to make a stair by sketch using this function (which as a tool is also greatly flawed)

@caius_cowgill @raycRJB9E Here use this little widget I created to help me space mullions.  It's a line based detail component that draws any desired number of equally spaced snappable crosshairs for aligning curtain grids between the inside faces of the outermost mullions, which REVIT ignores when IT equally spaces mullions.  9_9

To equally space lines of zero width just set the mullion width to zero, otherwise it will factor in the width of the outermost mullions and you won't be evenly spaced.

It's version 2023 so sorry if you're using an earlier version.
