Energy Analysis Error

When trying to run an Energy Analysis I got this error message: "There was a problem with the Energy Analysis Service. Unable to analyze." There was no other explaination given about why the analysis could not be run. Does anyone have suggestions about how to fix this?

This message occurs when there's a problem connecting to the Energy simulation server/service. OR when you have In-Place elements in your model... See Autodesk page HERE (Energy Analysis Limitations) and HERE (exporting to gbXML )

It would be good if you can test it on another project or have someone else test your model from a separate workstations - to rule out that the problem is not from your model.

For connection problem you can do the following:

  • Disable your fire wall
  • Double check if you are logged onto Autodesk 360
  • If you are not signed up to the Green Building Studio, do so HERE or log in to your autodesk account and go to Account Management > Services
  • Go to Green Building Studio (GBS 360)  and make sure you are logged into your account.
  • Try again after you log in

  • If the above doesn't work; try to send an energy simulation from another Revit stations on a different laptop/PC... If you can't then probably you have internal network restrictions which is blocking your access to the service and preventing the connection.

I tested it with a very basic model and it worked so it is most likely an issue with in-place elements. I am new to Revit and unsure how to tell which of my elements are in-place? Is there an easy way to tell? And what is the best way to edit these elements so that they are not in place?

Thank you for your help!

I'm not sure if there is an easy way to identify them and if identified whether isolating them would help or not. One could probably code API to search the model and extract extract element ID to isolate them (well or seek the help of the guys on the Revit API forum)...

Did you try to export the model to gbXML? CHECK HERE it might help in isolating unusable elements and spaces (including In Place elements/masses. Easiest way I think...when a warning display for the building or an item, select the item, and click (Show Related Warnings) and read on the cause. Then cancel the Export gbXML dialog and correct the problem in the building model. Downside is that if the model is too big and those elements were used extensively...then you will end up reviewing model, correcting warnings and restarting export until all of the warnings have been resolved.
