Elevation Tool stuck on wrong System Family

My Elevation took is stuck on System Family : Drafting View

Prior to my issue, when in plan, if you clicked on VIEW and click on ELEVATION an elevation tag was created and if you went to the Properties Drop-Down, it gave you options for Elevation: Interior Elevations or Building elevations.

At some point in time this changed. Now when I click on View and click on ELEVATION a callout tag is created and in the Propertied Drop-Down only Drafting View: Detail and various custom drafting view types.

My old interior elevation and elevation tags are still in the project, but i am unable to make new elevations in a normal fashion.

I have tried turning off all view templates and overrides. Transferring Project Standards from archived files. Copying Elevation Tags from one file to another but nothing as resolved the issue.

Anyone know how to resolve this?

Thanks!

Did you have the Reference other views checked while creating the elevations?

No. The Reference Other View box is not checked.

Like mentioned above, when i go to create an Elevation & Elevation Tag revit creates a Drafting View and Callout Tag instead.

The strangest thing is, the Drafting View that is created (instead of an Elevation), contains model information. Please see the attached image. Revit is filing this 2D model view under Drafting Views file organizer.

Its truly as if Revit is confused and is simply using the System Family : Drafting View instead of System Family : Elevation. (and there is no way to switch between the two.)

Any other ideas?

Have you tried to Audit the model?

ToanDN, I did try an Audit but it didn't resolve the issue.

I looked all over the internet and found (2) people that had the same issue but neither were able to find a solution.

My current workaround is to find an older elevation tag (from before the glitch) and right-lick and create similar to place/create a new elevation.

Seems wild that there is no real solution out there.

Can you strip down the model and share the file? I don't need any content, just the troubled view types.

ToanDN,

I right clicked on the project floor plan and selected "Save to New File..." to strip down the model to share.

I opened up the new file and saw that it had regained its ability to create Elevations instead of drafting views. So somewhere during the stripping/purging/saving process, the issue was fixed (in the new/small file).

I wonder if it was the process of saving as a new file or if it was the deletion of an element that resolved the issue.

Either way, it only fixed the small file. The main file still has the same issue. Might have to stick with the work-around.

Check

1. Browser Organization

2. Any template attached to the Elevation ( Detail )

I know this discussion happened months ago now but I recently ran into the same exact issue. My team struggled for an entire day to figure out what was going on. New Elevation views were only able to be created as System Family: Drafting View types. We had tried modifying the type and the tag families with no luck.

We had found a previous workflow that if there was an Elevation View tag already placed in the project, you could select that marker and then Create Similar. This would then allow the System Family: Elevation View to show up again. Unfortunately we did not have any existing markers to go with, and bringing in new families did not help either.

This time around I found another workflow where you could check Alight to Grid and the System Family: Elevation View type would then appear instead of System Family: Drafting View. After placing the aligned to grid Elevation view marker I then changed the Associated Datum parameter to "none" in the properties. Now, finally, System Family: Elevation View types were again an option when creating a new elevation view.

Ultimately, though the plan now shows the correct Elevation markers, the elevation views created are still showing up as Drafting View's by Revit in the project browser. All of the properties to these views clearly indicate they are an Elevation View, but I can not find a way to change them.
