Elevation marker visibility

Hi,

I am new to Revit and find this software not easy to learn. On my own for the past few days I am following a Revit manual we have to learn the fundamentals. Basically inventing exercises since I don't have access to the manual training files. Anyhow my question is regarding elevation marker visibility which seems to be a common issue while the answers are not clear to me being a beginner.

While on a floor plan I want to add an elevation marker to create an enlarged view. I get a warning telling me none of the elements created are visible... I see the new elevation in the browser, can locate the marker but on the site floor plan instead of my level. Now what?

I looked at a few properties that seem to surface a lot in posts;

Detail level = same on all views

hide at scales coarser = same scale as building elevation

discipline = same on all views

phase = same on all views

dependency = all independent

I don't know what more I can do to have marker visible on proper level.

Type in VV to open up the Visibility Graphic Override, switch to Annotation Categories tab, check Elevations and see if it is unchecked.

What is the value of "Hide at scale coarser than" and what is the scale of the floor plan?

Couple questions.....

1) Like the above, If you can't see any of the elevation markers then.elevation.png

2) What is the purpose of adding another elevation marker on an floor plan? There is already 4 of those per floor plan and those views are controlled by the actual elevation section of the project browser?

Hi @Anonymous

They are most probably outside the annotation crop region ...Did you try the following?

----> On the properties palette of the view/plan in question. >>> Scroll down and uncheck the box/option "Crop View"

Edit...Deleted 2nd comment (not applicable)

Just so you know I'm fooling around in Revit, no specific project to create just trying out the functions.

But to answer you guys...

1) The floor plan is at scale 1:100 and the hide coarser is set at 1:5000 by default (I guess)

2) There is always a need for additional elevations depending on shape of building. Maybe I'm proceeding the wrong way to add those. Like I said this is only my 4th day at Revit.

3) Also tried the properties and the crop view box is not checked

Long term revit user here for the last 4 years. Come across the exact same problem the OP is describing with one of my colleages. Only difference is we've made the jump from 2015 to 17.

Checked the obvious. Phase, view templates, visibility settings, scale courser than etc. Also elevation scales coming in at 1:5000 for hide when courser than. Which it never used too in previous versions. Still changed that though and made no difference.

One thing I noticed. Turning on and off the crop region for the plan view seems to make them reappear but that's not going to be always practical in future when making sheets.

- edit - After looking into it further. it appears if the elevation view is cropped, it won't appear in the plan view if the plan view is un cropped :-s

Attached the file (rvt2017) if anyone wants to review.

Left me stumped this. Any solutions would appreciated.

further note - the elevations view lines are well within the plan view crop boundary, so that's not the issue either.

Since none of the other responses has provided a solution yet--

-Use the "lightbulb" tool at the bottom of the screen to Reveal Hidden Elements--and see if the Elevation Marker is hidden. If so, check Unhide.

-Note that there are several Types of Elevations--Interior Elevation, Building Elevation, etc.

See if there is a Filter applied to your View ( or in a View Template which is applied to your View(s) where the Elevation Mark does not appear. It's possible to Hide/Unhide Elevation Types with such a Filter.

Were you able to resolve this by any chance?

I'm running into the exact same issue when I place an elevation. It identifies the wall correctly as a shear wall and generates a shearwall elevation, however, no matter what I do am I able to show it on the floor plan.

Thanks,
