Editing external files from other sofwares

I have an Inventor file, which I can import into Revit a few ways however, I would like to be able to edit the file once in Revit, asif it was created in Revit.

I have tried importing it in different file formats and exploding the block/family that it file inserts in as, but that doesnt work.

Is there a way in which i can import an inventor file into revit and still have the ability to edit the inventor file like it was created from revit?

Thanks

No, it is not possible to have native Revit geometry from other software.

Short answer:  No

Long answer 1:  if the geometry can be built in Revit, then do it in Revit.  You can import the inventor file and use is as the reference to rebuild it in Revit.  Then you can assign parameters to the geometry to 'BIM' the family.

Long answer 2:  export components from inventor as separate files.  import them in a revit family and assemble them. you can assign visibility parameters to have different configurations of the assembly, but each component is still a fixed/dumb piece.

There it is.  Pick your poison.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Yes the idea is solution 1. I just wanted to check to see if it could be done before starting.

Thanks
