Hello. I have been trying to make a Face Based Lighting Fixture Family. It works well enough. However, it is a hassle accessing and editing the Photometrics Parameter of the Family as it was not directly editable on the project when the Family is loaded. My process of making it is this: 1. Make a Generic Light Housing 2. Nest Generic Light Housing to the Metric Lighting Fixture family template. 3. Nest the created Lighting Fixture to the Generic Model Face Based family template. By step 3, I would have problems associating the Photometrics parameters to the host family.
When I load it to a project, I would have to open the family up just to access the Photometrics parameters when I need to edit the light intensity, color, etc.
If I were to create in a different order: 1. Make a Generic Light Housing 2. Nest Generic Housing to a Generic Model Face Based family template, 3. Nest Face Based Light Housing to a Metric Lighting Fixture, this would solve the problem of parameter access, however, the face-based feature of the light housing would be ignored.
Is there a workaround for this or is my process wrong?
Sorry for the long post.
Are you aware that you can make a non-hosted Lighting Fixture Family a face-based Light Fixture? Just check "Work Plane-Based" and uncheck "Always Vertical". This will give 2 placement options to choose from in the Project - Place on Face or Place on Work Plane.
Another method would be to make the Light Fixture nested Family a SHARED Family. This way you can TAB-Select the Nested Family in the Project so that you can access and edit its Photometric Parameters.
If you like, you can post the completed Family here and we can rebuild it for you.
I think I understand what is happening in your Screenshot. The Light Family Type Parameters are in a Shared Family. Open the Family and associate the Light Source Parameters to custom INSTANCE Parameters in the host - not the stock Photometric Type Parameters. Then reload the Family into the next level up Family and associate its custom Instance Parameters to Family Type Parameters in that Host Family.
