- I have tried method to edit the object styles by category. Problem with this is many elements under same category not going to be same materials.
Even though a material is assigned to the category, other materials can be assigned to an instance. That would overrule the object styles.

- I tried using the paint method but selecting 20 or 30 faces of an object is very time consuming, and some object paint does not work - paint would be great if it allowed you to select the whole object.
If 20-30 faces are gonna have the same appearance, then don't use paint, assign materials to the geometry.

- The most annoying thing is our model has many many in place families. To change material of these i have to edit in place, then select all the components then change material.
In-place families are very similar to the loadable families. This means that you can create material parameters. Those parameters can be type parameters. So, to do the changes, all you have to do is edit the family and edit the value which was assigned to a type parameter. You don't need to select and edit every solid instance (assuming that you already had assigned material parameters to those solids).

- Cant select many objects at once to change material.
Select the object, right click and "Select all instances".
