It might be better to create the array in your elevation then in the family
if it's bugging you that much. I have several complicated door/window
families and they are really slow too, when you make changes, but the payoff
is that I can schedule everything separetely and create legend views for my
doors and frames. I don't really notice it until I start changing stuff.

I have a very simple bifold door that i created fake louvers in the exterior
elevation with a nested family containing one model line dynamicly arrayed
over the door panels... The largest number of arrayed elements is no more
than 36 but yet it behaves very slowly...
When inserting in a project or just flexing the dimensions of the door while
editing the family it takes 5-6 seconds to respond while presumably it is
doing the calculation for the dynamic array...
It is not terrible with
this specific family but i am considering the fact that the wait time will
grow exponentially while the number of elements and complexity of the
elements grow...
That was long winded...
Simply what happens when i create a more complex object will i be waiting a
half hour for each insertion...
I like the ability to have dynamic/parametric objects but at a serious cost
to productivity it kind of outweighs itself real quick...
Am i missing something or is this a sad reality...
