Dropdown menus not displaying

Hi all,

I've been using Revit LT 2017 since July, and only recently have I been having issues with my dropdown menus not displaying at all. They function - if I click on the empty space where the drop down should be, it selects the item, but I cannot see to navigate. Anyone else having this issue?

Yes my computer is new and all drivers have been updated.

I actually figured out that this happens when I link my laptop (with a 4K
screen) to my extended desktop setup. If the revit window is on the native
laptop screen, it displays the dropdowns. If I move the window to the
extended screens, it suddenly does not show the drop downs. So something
gets lost in translation - but I still have no idea how to fix it (whether
that's at the OS level, the software level, or an inherent issue with
hardware compatibility). Any ideas?

Are you using revit 2017.1?

We're having the exact same issue with two laptops when plugged into external monitors (model and resolution does not matter - tried this with both laptops on 3 different monitors). The issue only appears if the screen is "extended". If it is duplicated, the dropdowns work fine. If it is extended, the drop-downs select, but nothing is shown (ie levels, loc lines etc). Running Build 17.0.416.0 20160225_1515(x64)

I should clarify that the if screen is extended, the dropdowns work on the laptop screen, but once the Revit window is moved to the 2nd display, the dropdowns disappear.

when i'm on my laptop screen it's all fine. even if i have the screen resolution on 4k.

when i connect my second monitor (lg 27ud88-w) the dropdown menu's are getting smal or not even work at all

i also updated revit to 2017.1,1 and it didn't worked.

hope some one can find a solution for this

We had the same issue.  We fixed it by having the zoom % for both laptop and monitor set to 200%.  We have the laptop as our main display (but I don't believe it matters)  we also run a reg hack to it. http://www.danantonielli.com/adobe-app-scaling-on-high-dpi-displays-fix/

the key is having the monitor and laptop at the same zoom.

Hope this helps...

I was having this exact issue with 2018 and your zoom settings worked like a charm!  Thanks.

Sucks though, I either have my 4K laptop at a tolerable zoom and my main monitor so zoomed in that I can read icon labels from across the room  OR I have my main monitor at a tolerable zoom and my laptop screen is like reading writing on a grain of rice!

At least it works now.  Cannot wait for my new monitor mounts to get installed. Maybe I'll change up what screen is my main one after this. THanks!!!!

are you set up to Cycle through all for your Ribbon?

the top right end of the ribbon next to modify you will see an egg shape button with an up Arrow head and next to that a down arrow head.

select the down Arrow head to see the options.

options are

1. Minimize to Tabs

2. Minimize to Panel Titles

3. Minimize to Panel Buttons

4. Cycle Through All

views are specific to the contextual menu

have you tried to turn off your Hardware accelerator?

If there is any information shared that is of value please give Kudos
If a solution is provided by any posters please mark them as Solved to benefit everyone else.
thank you

Yes, my accelerator is off.

It really wasn’t a problem with the drop down’s in the ribbon, they worked fine. It was the dropdowns in the properties box or the modify tab. (I’ve accidentally reset this “feature” a couple times already. LOL I actually prefer the “Panel Buttons” view.) Once I reset the zoom settings for all three of my monitors (including the laptop) to match, it’s all good. I also reset the resolution on the laptop (4K) to something lower and now I can see everything and it all drops down like it should. The only thing I really even MIGHT find the 4K useful for would be either editing in photoshop or zooming WAY in on some historical images to see if I can make out trim details for our preservation work. They ordered me a refurbished laptop, so I got a 4K because that was what was in stock.

Thanks for the advice, though! I’m VERY new at this so I’m soaking in everything I can. I used Architectural Desktop 2002 in school, and had to transition to and use only AutoCAD LT since I graduated and started working here in 2005! Leaps & Bounds I tell you!!! 😊

Fixes the problem (setting all monitors to same zoom %, but this really is a bad solution when you have a small monitor on your device and larger connected monitors, basically makes the smaller device monitor unusable.
