Dropdown menu for project parameters?

Hello,

I'm a proficient ArchiCAD user who decided to start learning Revit 2021 by dissecting/taking apart some sample projects. A very good sample project that I'm using is the Austrian "Golden_Nugget" that's downloadable from ADSK.

I've been stuck the past few days (tried searching and Google) about some project parameters which use a dropdown menu. The ones I'm referring to are located within the view properties under "constraints" and are called "Projektbrowser Ebene 1/2/3" and they have dropdown menus which forces the user to make a choice.

Where are the dropdown menu choices located? I wasn't able to see them under Manage -> Project Parameters. Also, I can't seem to change the discipline and parameter type for existing ones only newly created parameters. Is this intentional with no way around once you create a parameter?

Only some built in system parameters have drop-down.  Additionally, you can create it in a family by using a Family Type parameter but that's about it.

Those are project parameters used for sorting and grouping Views and Schedules and/or sheets in the Project Browser

  1. Once Defined, you cannot change their type (instance to type or vise versa)
  2. Note: Some family categories are available only when parameter is set to Instance (example: Views and Schedules) ... For that reason, once the parameter is defined as instance, you cannot change it to type otherwise the selected parameters might become invalid

  3. The inputs in the Drop Down menu automatically populate when you add new ones to it. There is no other place to define new values except
    • In the properties palette by inputting a new value into that parameter (See GiF below)
      • Project Browser.gif
    • Or in the schedule (when you create a view list and add these parameters/fields to the schedule)
      • Project Browser 1.gif

You apply sorting and grouping to the browser  as follows

Thanks for the detailed explanation @RDAOU and the time you put into that post! Yeah, that dropdown menu makes me believe the choices are obligatory like in most other programs' UI.

One more question: does anyone know where I can find a copy of Gebaeudebuch_GemeinsameParameter.txt? I accidentally overwrote the contents of it.

It Depends on the installation and the plugin version .. go on windows explorer and do a search. By default it should be on the following path (ex: Revit 2020 and Revit 2022)

  • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Roombook Areabook Buildingbook for Revit 2020\Buildingbook\Program
  • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Roombook Areabook Buildingbook for Revit 2022\Buildingbook\Program

The .rfa needed are by default installed under the imperial library

It was in that directory where I accidentally overwrote the .txt file. So I need to download it/find it from someplace else.
