Dragging windows in Revit 2016 smears across the Desktop - 2018 version ok

I'm trying to troubleshoot an odd issue with Revit 2016 - when dragging my Revit windows around the screen, it smears across the desktop - like I'm painting on it - this gets stuck and will not go away unless I close/restart Revit 2016 - Revit 2018 is also installed on the machine and does not do this - also, as best as I can tell, no other Windows applications do this - only Revit.  I have tried updating graphics card drivers (they are current - I have an AMD FirePro W5100), reinstalling DirectX.  Earlier today in addition to this problem I was also getting "An error has occurred while drawing the contents of this window" that caused Revit to crash.  After rebooting the PC a few times, that error went away.  The "smearing effect" while moving the Revit windows around remains, however.  Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?  thank you!
