Our dummy detail component for parapet wall has two small items. One is blocking and other is the cant strip.

Their location are both adjustable via instance dimensional parameter (without ref plane).

Yet only one gives the dragg-able tool when loaded, see photo.

What gives and how to make it so ?

It all depends on how you created those families. It's difficult to give you more advice based on this information.

Really? Post the file then.  Better than guessing and getting "Knots".

You need a ref plane at each grip, and an instance length parameter to the plane.  The planes should be set to anything but not Not a reference.

You don't have R17, but I attached here anyway,

FTSOI (for the shake of insanity).

I don't know what's going on, but I can rebuild it in two shakes of a lamb's tail. My rebuilt has the detail components as nested families instead of grouped elements in the Parent.  Rebuilt works flawlessly.

@ToanDN: did you look at the family? Maybe you can fix it and repost it for me to look at. I couldn't get there.  Maybe I gave up too quick.

Thank you Barth n Toan,

The grip did appear if Ref Plane set to anything but "not a ref", as I missed it from Toan reply.

My curiosity is why the block has no ref plane but still earn the grip and the cant block needs to go through ref plane setup.

Yep, I missed that (e.g. Not a Reference) in your Family. Must be time for a nap.  😉
