I created door trims with Sweep and placed their workplane on the default wall surface. The way we practice in our firm is to have only one layer of stud walls, and Interior team can add other layers to the wall if they want. And when they add, they Join the walls, so the doors and windows can cut through the walls. The problem is, the door trim that I created stays on the main wall surface and doesn't jump on the most exterior layer when we join the walls. Are there any solutions, or workaround that I can use so the trim will be placed on the outer layer? Please see the screenshots.
The door is a default one or did you created it?
If you created the door family i think you should edit the family.
Try on locking the sweep to the external face of the wall while editing the family

Yes, but then they'll need to add a parameter to control the trim dimensions (probably an instance parameter).
And doesn't matter if you made the family or not, you can do this with the OOTB family as well.
The trim in the family only reads the host wall, not the joined wall. You will need to manually adjust the trim with a parameter to match the total wall thickness. You'll need a parameter to do that, something like "Wall Thickness".
One way is @mhiserZFHXS said.
Another way is split the wall at the door location and replace the two walls there with one wall of the same overall thickness.
