Hi,
I have a door family and a door tag. I would like a text note to switch on and off in the door tag based on a door family instance parameter. I have created a shared parameter for door family and tag and linked to visibility of text in tag family. I'm obviously missing something. Many Thanks

and what is the problem ?
thank you for responding. The tag text which is set to SP does not switch off when I switch off the SP on the door family. I assume I am missing some step
did you mean something like this ?
Hi @dharringtonJ5FG4 ,
Tag's appearance can't be controlled by 'outside' parameters.
So a instance parameter (yes/no) can't (edited to Can't!) turn on or off a element inside the Tag.
What you can do is make the textlabel in the Tag with a calculated field.
In the formula use the instance door parameter (suggest using a integer parameter) to show one parameter or another or add something to it.

Apologies for my delayed response. Yes this is what I mean. Could you explain how this is setup? Mine is not behaving like this when I click the door parameter. Many Thanks
You're using a Calculated Field in the Tag?
Ps. I edited my post, in the first paragraph it stated Can, should be "Can't edit visibility of elements in tag by outside parameter)
Thank you for your reply. I’ve set up a door family with some text whose visibility is linked to an instance parameter in the tag. This visibility is controlled by a calculated formula where the shared parameter in the door tag is equal to 1.
• The shared parameter is added in the door tag as an instance parameter.
• I’ve also loaded this shared parameter as a project parameter in the model.
• When I toggle the value between 0 and 1 for the instance parameter in the door, the text in the tag does not switch on and off as expected. I'm out of practice making families so I am very sure I am probably missing an obvious step
did you use the same share parameter for both family and project?
post your family here, maybe I can take a closer look at it.
Yes I used the same shared parameter for family (tag and door) and project. Attached here. Many Thanks
Thanks for the help so far! I’ve been trying to work through the suggestions, but I’m still stuck and can’t figure out what I’m missing. I’ve attached the files in case anyone can take a closer look and let me know where I’m going wrong.
Really appreciate any guidance—thanks in advance!
Hi,
You use the text and you want to control the visibility of text but this is not working, i use the formula, try this file :
Thank your for this - it's very helpful. For my own learning would there be a way of linking visibility to a detail item /symbol to switch on/off in a similar fashion or does this only extend to labels?
if I understand well, for this items i try to use the Family Type and Detail Items or Detail Items Tag category.
