Door opening side not visible on plan view

Hi all

I've difficulties with visibility of door opening on plan view . If I play around with door height(increase the height) door opening side becomes visible. For example if door original height is 215cm then door opening is gone but if make it 225 cm then it becomes visible by that time I noticed that the sill height is also changed to 10cm automatically.

how am I supposed to correct it with 215cm door height w/o silll?

Regards,

I also checked the view range from plan view to make sure that it really cuts the door (cut plane is positioned at the 120cm ) which clearly cuts the door, so the sweeping area should be visible. What else could be the source of this discrepancy?

You should not have to change the door height to make the door opening visible. In most case it would the view range settings that is the culprit.

If possible can you strip your project till the wall and the door and upload it so that we can have a look?

(use dropbox, wetransfer or similar if too large and post link)

Verify that problem still exists in stripped file.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Yes I agree logically it should be view range culprit, but for my case that view range seems to be normal. Another side notice is that: if I make door sill other than zero then it automatically makes door visible and increases the door height, there is interesting correlation with door sill. It may give a clue to a keen eye.

That really is difficult cause the project is too large, but at least I'l try to purge it.

Are you using one of Revit standard doors or did you create one yourself?

the problem could also lies within the family.

Do you have tis problem as well when you use that door in another project?

One of the custom doors created by another user, he/she have taken an intereseting approach to represent door and opening, the sweep area was created in family so it lies at the bottom if there was any floor finishings then it is masqueraded by that finish so that explains why my door opening (sweep area ) was becoming invisible if I don't place a door sill.

Originated from that discrepancy I 'd like to know in a short what is the proper way of defining the custom doors, I'm sure that isn not the way that is done in my project.

there are probably several approaches to creating doors. Depending on the kind of information you want from the family.

RevitZone has an extensive guide on how to model doors:

Hi

Open the door family and go to a plan view, check the level where the door will be cut when inserted in the project. See attached: See the properties of the view and drop down to see Floor Plan:Ref. Level

Door.png

That is the level where the door is cut if the view range of the plan view in your project cuts the door. (E.G. If door is 2100mm height door will be visible if view range is between 1 and 2100mm)

Re-insert the family in the project and let us know.

For the anotation lines showing the opening, make sure the lines are visible when changing the family size in the family in plan view.

Cheers

In the family editor, make sure that your reference plane [that is aligned and locked to the reference level] is set to "Define Origin" in the instance properties.

Thank you all in advance,

That was really helpful, the difficulty that I faced with in the family editor was to change teh refference plane(ref level) which was posiitoned at the bottom of the door which was also reference for the door sweeping area and wasn't able to change the location of it e.g. 50cm up from the bottom of the door. Thanks to original modeller because  he/she defined also couple of planes which was pointing to the middle height or top height of door so I choose mid level and now it works. But modifying the reference plane has always been a hassle for me especially in 3D view it never works easily as I expected. So far so good.

I'm reviving this old thread because I have a similar issue with one of our custom door families.  The sill is invisible unless I move the door up any nonzero amount, but I don't want to do this for the hundreds of doors in the project.  The "sill" is drawn with model lines whose on/off visibility is controlled by a Sill parameter.  The plan view is called "Floor Line" and the associated level is also "Floor Line".  Is this incorrect and if so, how do I change it (seeing that Associated Level is greyed out)?  Family is attached.  Thanks in advance!
