In the ‘old’ (i.e. Autocad) days we would like to number doors so that they relate to the room number. In this scenario, if Room 101 has 3 doors, then the doors would be 101A, 101B and 101C. This approach seems to work against the internal workings of Revit. Am I seeing this correctly? I also noted that it seems that I get error messages if I try to number a door that has the same numerical value as rooms, also correct? I think I’m trying to overthink, or force something here.
No, you can use that approach in Revit and number your doors 101A, 101B, 101C etc. So long as the Mark value is unique Revit doesn't mind, it doesn't specifically have to be numerical.
Are you finding Revit is returning a warning when you do this?
No, not a warning when I use the alphabetical suffix. Another way to ask my question is: it seems that to use the suffix approach, I have to adjust each door manually, correct? If I accept the numbers Reviet is suggesting, then they are all over the place because of the sequence that the doors have been placed in the project. I’m just trying to zero in on the best approach. I’ll have a scimitar issue with Windows – the tags all are coming in with a Type Mark. I may want to number them individually, but haven’t figured that one out yet, although I assume that is simple. Thank you for your quick reply.
@PhilvK hello, check this screencast if suits your requirements. thanks
Here is a link to how to do it in Dynamo - as I said earlier not the easiest starting point if you've not used it before. If I get a chance later today I'll turn it into script for you and you can give it a go but all the info is there.

Also the CTC renumbering tool will allow you to use the Room Number for doors (but not for windows it seems... ) - I'll be honest though I don't use this tool myself, I use the Excitech one.
Thank you for the video, but I need to find a way to get it to go to full screen to be able to fully understand it. The expand icon doesn’t seem to want to work.
Sorry, can't help you with that one... works fine here...
If you install the CTC tools it's pretty straightforward though, I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out.
Thank you Keith. I will take a look at these, but you are right, I won’t start with trying to learn Dynamo. For now I’ll just use the 101A, 101B method and do it manually. That way adding/deleting doors isn’t an issue with affecting all the numbers.
Hi everyone
Im working on security drawings and need to turn on architect door number so we know which door required swap card. i have tried "tag by category" and "tag all" however the door number shown are different from architect door schedule.
can any of you lovely people help please
thanks
We number the doors after their room placement using the xDoor extension available in the Revit app store as a trial. it is a very reliable tool and allow also to number windows. The doors are numbered as roomnumber.sequence . That is a standard in Norway since all doors in large buildings will be tagged in reality.

What error message? I name doors as room number and sequencing all the times. That's pretty standard stuff.
SREYH4C2L - You may be getting confused by the door's Type Mark, vs. its Mark, i.e., individual door number, as I was when I made my original post in 2016.
