Dividing roof in different structures

Hi,

I am looking for a different solution for dividing my roof construction types. To be more precise, I want to divide my roof into 2 different construction types: the roof and the overhang. The difference in between is the missing insulation in the overhang. As in picture nr.2, in which are represented the 2 roof type I want to have.

My solution:

1. Create the roof with overhang by face using the roof by face tool

2. Cutting with voids the overhang

3. Make roof type 2, by extrusion.

The issues with this solution is that is not precise. It works for the external part of the roof by not inside. The thing is that I have a doughnut shape roof. See picture 3. So when I create a roof by extrusion in this area the square parts are not connecting. Yes, I can use the roof connect tool, but it can be used only in one direction, can't use the same roof part to connect twice.

I was also thinking to divide my roof into parts, using the "create parts" tool as I could do for walls, and to extrude the parts for roof type 2. But for some unknown reason for me, the tool is greyed out.

Thank you, looking forward to hearing some of your ideas or solutions.

An option is to create two roofs.  One roof is the finish and its structure that extends to the eaves.  The second roof is created below the first to contain the make-up for the internal part of the roof.

what about using Cutoff Level to create two Roofs by Footprint one over the other:

  • the first Roof will have a Cutoff Level equal with the eave height
  • the second from this Cutoff Level to top

and the result of using the method from my previous post;

it's possible that , after aligning roofs , and joining to have to use Linework to hide some seam lines...

Hi! Thank you for the information. I am just beginning to use this program, and your posts will be very helpful to me. When building our house, my wife and I decided to design the roof ourselves as we wanted to do something unique. At the time, I didn't know this program existed yet, and all we could do was contact the Indianapolis roof company. The specialists did all the work for us, including designing and installing the new roof. The result exceeded all expectations. If you ever need roofing services, I recommend this company.
