I'm trying to use the "Create Parts" tool to divide a floor into two separate surfaces so I can leave the main floor with a horizontal line hatch to show hardwood and the smaller region showing a tile pattern. However when I try to do this with my existing floor assembly, once I complete the dividing function, the entire floor hatch goes blank (see attached images). What's more, I can't select the floor in plan anymore. The floor is still visible in section so I know it hasn't been deleted, but I can't select or see it in plan once the function is complete.
I tried the function on a new floor plate just outside my model and it worked fine (see image "test floor"). It's the same floor assembly aligned to the same level. Am I missing something? Alternately is there an easier way to assign a different hatch pattern to a separate floor area (without going crazy and creating totally separate floors?)

@Anonymous - have you tried to Split Face, and then Paint with Material? Both tools are in the Modify panel.

I'm afraid it's still not working and every time I try it I find a new variable or get a new unexpected result which indicates to me that this is a more complex feature than I can work with at this point. Thank you for your help.
That's okay. Use whatever tool works for you. By the way, below is an example pf how Parts created from a floor works. Screencast is up in a few minutes.

Incredible solution! That way I can keep my quantitative numbers correct. Thank you.
Hi All, Just discovered the "part" ability of a floor. Very cool way to show different finishes etc, but now I have an issue! When I model external pavements for example I like to put falls in them but I don't want to see all the internal break lines that this creates. So I turn this off in my template under the model>floor>internal edges subcomponent. The issue is that now when I have parts this forces all the internal edges to display. Any ideas how to sort this out so you can display the different material edge but not get the internal floor grade lines?
