Display window above cut plane

According to Revit documentation (please refer to last section in the following link), window should appear if it is above cut plane and below top level). However, in my model a window won't appear in this case. I tested plan region with higher cut plane and it works and the window can be shown. Am I missing something here?

Thanks

You can control that from the family.  Select all the symbolic elements and do what shows below.  Let me know if it is clear.

You can use existing model elements of a family if you haven't got symbolic lines, select all the model elements that you want to display in a plan view then go to visibility settings and check options Display in Plan/RCP and When cut in Plan/RCP.

Next, in a project go to a plan view and in Properties set a parameter of a plan view Show Hidden Lines: All.

Revit add-ins: CAD Purger (delete UNUSED and selected line patterns & line styles, find and delete CAD), Rooms To Spaces, Schedule Utilities (Calculated Values/Combined Parameters To Tags, reuse view filter rules in schedule filters), View Filter Manager at Revit Apps Store

Thanks, this works; but I have a follow up question, what if I want to display the window with dash lines (only if they above the cut plane), is there a way to do this from the family?

Please see my post above, apply procedure to model elements, similar to what ToanDN already suggested to symbolic lines.

The method by @artejon would work if you are okay with showing hidden lines everywhere in your view.  There are other ways to only shows the high up windows as hidden lines without affecting the global hidden line presentation of the view.  But try his way first, it maybe just what you need.

Below is the difference between setting Hidden to Discipline vs Hidden to All.

I tried the method proposed by @artejon, but it didn't work for me. I thought about adding hidden lines in the family over the existing symbol lines and show them if the windows are over the cut plane. Is there a better solutions?

Thanks guys for your time.

That's about what I would be suggesting. A set of solid lines that are only visible when cut. Another set of dashed line that are always visible. The dashed line weight should be less or equal to the solid line weight.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but this is the closest source I have found for my problem. I have a curtain wall above the cut plane that I would like to display. Since it is a system family it plays by different rules and I can't used the above solution to make it display. Any suggestions on where to find the option for "only show when cut" checkbox for system families? Thank you.

Draw a Plan Region around the curtain wall to move the View Range up.

I m having this same issue in revit 2018. I am not seeing the options you display here. My windows are showing gray just like the walls in plan but show correctly in all other views.

1. Are the windows above the cut plane?
2. Are they just gray or entirely not visible?

They are gray. They display with generic exterior masonry wall but not with brick on metal or cmu

Sounds like a different issue. Can you share the file?

The sill is at 3 ft the head is at 9. I think the cut plane is at 4’6” or 5’. Why would they show correctly with generic exterior masonry wall but not with brick on cmu or metal

Is there any way to do this with a curtain wall that sits above the view cut line?

The above didn't work for me either, the menu shown doesn't appear when I select the windows.   Is there really not a good solution for this yet?    It seems like such a basic function.  Windows and doors should always appear on the plan, no matter where the cut line is.

What menu doesn't appear? Since this thread is already closed, can you create your own topic?

One thing I do in my window families specifically for this reason is add a reference line from the window sill to the floor line, This will make the window above the cut plane show up in your plan.
