Hi everyone,
I am facing a strange issue.
File A1 has 2d 'detail element group' (Bath elements) and these 'detail element groups' have 2d 'detail element families' of WC, shower and so on. And these 2d 'detail element families' have reference lines/planes that can be used for dimentioning. it works fine in this file A1.
Now File A1 is linked into file B2 and I would like to dimention these 'detail element families', but I am unable to do that. it doesnt find any reference line snaps. Other than these 'detail element families' all other model elements which are 3d can be dimentioned just fine.
I checked with Visual Graphics and filters and even the setting for linked files. I cant find what the issue seems to be.
I hope you could understand my issue so far, looking forward to your ideas.
Thankyou for your time.

make sure your link selection is turned on then just tab through until you find what is needed for dimension.
Hi,
Thankyou for your reply. Yes link selection is on.
I am able to dimension 3d model elements only 2d detail elements cannot be dimension-ed.
Any further ideas?
Thanks again.

is it possible to share one of the 2d details so that I can try linking and dimensioning?
Here You go.
If it helps this way your could recreate the issue:
Make a file R1 import this file as a group. save close.
Make a second file S2 import R1 and try to set the view to the view of the linked file so you can see the detail group too. Try dimentioning the detail elements (2d elements the WC the shower and the washbasin).
Cheers for your help.

I can dimension it.
The opened new project linked your Revit file into that as an attachment not overlay. ( prj 1)
Opened new project ( prj 2) linked prj 1 still able to dimension 2d element from that.

There is NO detail element groups in the file you posted (e.g. "Badtyp A3.rvt"), nor are any created in the workflow you described. If you want us to replicate/test your workflow, you need to be specific and use Revit terminology. It's best to break the workflow down into numbered action steps. I would also post the actual file that you are having difficulty with, along with its Linked files.
BTW: If you are talking about dimensioning an attached Detail Group in a BY LINKED VIEW, you cannot.
Okay, your last line is what I was actually trying to do. ''dimensioning an attached Detail Group in a BY LINKED VIEW''
Oh my bad, you are right. Thanks for pointing it out. I am afraid i shared the wrong files.
So this is my workflow:
1. File A1 is created with a group which has an attached detail group.
2. File S2 is a new file create wherein the A1 is imported.
3. I set the view in file S2 as by Linked View (so that I can see the attached detail groups within the model groups) and try to dimension them.
4. My issue is I can dimension the model elements from the linked file but not the detail group elements.
-x-
The only workaround I can think of is copy paste the groups from A1 into S2 and place them. Drawback here is any changes I do here I will always need to copy the groups to file A1 and update the groups. arrgh. thats not logical. Any other ideas?
I can also export the groups as revit file and reload this file each time as a group in either of the files. ouch.
