Dimensions for Linked Revit file change/disappear

We've stumbled upon quite an annoying problem in our project.

It's an office building, where the facades are drawn in a seperate rvt file and linked into the actual model.

The past days a few curtain panels have been changed in the facade model, but the gridlines, mullions and everything else stayed the same.

When opening the general model several dimensions have either disappeared or become skewed. Most dimensions are referenced to grid lines and these didn't change. For instance: the dimension is still there but no longer parallel to the wall, though it's still picking the correct referenced. I've attached a screenshot of this case.

We've also noticed dimensions on our structural linked rvt file have sometimes changed, eventhough ther ehave been no changes in this model.

Does anybody have a clue what causes this and how it can be fixed? We'll probably still have to make some changes to the facade-model and without having to check every floorplan (about 50 of them) to make sure the dimensions are still there and correct.

Hi

It is like Revit understands each individual reference. If you change the
panel, specially for another family, you'll be changing the whole set of
internal references and the dimension can no longer exist. A workaround
would be placing your mullions and panels in a way that allows the curtain
wall reference line to be on a face, so you can place a dimension on it. No
matter how much you change your panels, the curtain wall reference line
will be always the same - since you don't delete and place another curtain
wall.

I understand that a dimensions reference gets deleted when a panel changes. But the odd thing is, many dimensions are

placed on the grid lines, these grids didn't change, but the dimension still changed or disappeared. recently.

The same goes for our structural model, this one hasn't changed in the past 2 weeks or so, yet we've noticed certain dimensions have changed.

Any idea what cause the skewed dimension i show in the attechement above?

The references are still there, but Revit placed the dimension line at an angle.

We have the same problem, but, for example, with walls (in architecture model) and pipes or ducts. If an architect delete and create the same wall in the same place, dimension in my model attached to duct and this wall will be deleted. :c

@Kimtaurus, if the gridlines are the same, yes it really don't make sense, but I can't figure it out without taking a closer look. The dimensions highlighted in the images, are they aligned or linear?

@tuuletin, it is expected that dimensions loose reference if you delete an object. The problem is many architects don't know how important is to keep an object in it's place, changing only the object's type. Then the delete a 12cm thick wall to place another, with the same length and heigth, but 14cm thick. You should alert your colleagues of it.

Yeah, we have already dealt with them... But sometimes they forget about our alert and delete something Cat Indifferent
