dimensioning problems to revit families

Hi I have been creating families in revit but im not able to figure out a way to dimension the spacing at the centre of the extrusions. Since the refrence plans only snap to the edges how do I accomplish this task. Also I got an idea to automaticallly plot the dimesions with the RP. Please can any one give me an insight or tips on this issue. I am attaching the picture for better understanding.12121232.PNG

In the picture I want the spacing to be snippid from the centre not the edges. I tried using refrence lines, but did no good. Please help me out here.

Edit your family and create a "reference plane" in the middle of your stud using front view.

dimension the reference place equal on the 2 edges of the stud.

@jdiala Thanks for the reply. I tried doing that. In my family i control the spacing and number in the array based on the RP's and dimensions. I need to lock the stud to each RP. I could not do it when I place it in the middle. Have you got any idea how to lock the RP to the stud when placed at the middle?

Thanks for your help

Create the reference plane on the middle of the stud and make it equal. Then when you create the group for the array, include the reference plane as part of the group. The reference plane will also be arrayed.

Wow! it worked. I have just one more doubt. I have different stud sizes and created types under the same family. Now when I do the equal dimension per your direction, when I change the stud size the constraints error come. I even put an instance parameter just to switch between the stud sizes and did but still no result. Please can you help me on this.

Wow that was awesome! So I need to create separate families for each stud. that's fine. I had just one question, is there a possibility in revit to dimension objects in the family and once we load it into a project and do a section cut the dimensions show up? Can I do it?

I can't think of a solution on that one at the moment.

If you are talking about possibilities, then there is thru Revit API, but I don't think you wouldn't go that far for this simple task.
