Dimensioning Handrails in plan

I've been using this software for long enough to just assume this is yet another random unnecessary limitation...

Why can I not simply dimension between handrails in plan?

- Profile is circular

- Profile is split into 2 halves horizontally

- Ref planes added to see if that would help

I can't understand why issues like this are still so prevalent after decades of development...

not sure, i was able to dimension between two circular handrails with no issues. can you post the railing in a blank project and post it?

'Handrails' or just rails? Rails seem to dimension with no problem, 'Top rails' even dimension, but when you use the 'Handrail' option they don't accept dimensions at all:
