I think I know the answer to this question, but would like to confirm.
Is is possible to turn off the wall layers outside the Core Boundary to allow dimensioning to the face of structure? I would like to dimension to face of structure in 3D, but my wall assembly is core + 1/2" plywood sheathing. In plan, I can dimension to core by tabbing. In 3D, I do not have this option? See below for 3D and plan references. The 6' dimension is the desired distance.
Thanks.
While dimensioning - make sure that Wall Faces is active.
That worked for dimensioning correctly, but I have 'floating' dimensions without a visible reference. Not possible to turn off the visibility of the non-core layers?
The layers are not visible in 3D view, unless you convert the wall to Parts. So why not edit the dimension style, and modify the Witness Line Gap to Element?
I was reading elsewhere that creating parts caused issues with cleanup and complexity. It was a recent (2015) post.

Create Parts should not affect your other drawings if you keep the views as Show Originals. Besides, you don't need to create Parts for everything, just the elements you need.
