Dimension string not showing equal symbol

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello Everyone!

I am a beginner and now trying to build a sliding door using the Metric Door.rft as a template. I put 2 dimension strings to divide the door height and wanted to set the two dimensions to equal but for some reason the EQ symbol is not showing. If anyone could explain what I am doing wrong, that would be great.

Hi Ennujozlagam,

If I select the dimension, the only symbol it shows is the open padlock... Any idea why this is happening?

Jon the image you attached shows 1 lock above the the dimension. That means you drew two dimensions each separately. To have the EQ they need to be continuos. Start from bottom or top the the middle then the other end ...

Hi ennujozlagam,

Thanks, I am sending the file for your reference.

I tried again, and this time the EQ symbol shows however I now get the message "Toggling the dimension's equality constraint would overconstrain the sketch." I have attached the file for your reference.

@RDAOU, thanks for the great screencast! However, as I mentioned to ennujozlagam above, now Revit says "Toggling the dimension's equality constraint would overconstrain the sketch." If you could help me on this, that would be great. Thanks Guys!

@Anonymous you are welcome; unfortunately this is the only solution to have EQ appear. It is not functioning because you either locked more than 2 vertical dimensions linked to the panel or interfering with it or because you EQ would rely on other elements of the door which are locked/constrained hence ristricting the panel from redimensioning to preserve equality with respect to the reference Plane in the middle.

In the door you are drawing: The EQ will basically try to relocate the Reference plane in the middle either Up or Down to keep it in the middle between the Top and the bottom constraints. I would check if in this view or another view there is something else constraining this movement. Otherwise zip the file and attach it here and @ennujozlagam will do fix for you.

I personally would recommend that  you look more into Families tutorials to understand how constraints work.

Good Luck

Hi ennujozlagam,

Thank you for the reply!

Sorry, I was away for a couple of weeks.

That is great, it indeed works if I zip the file. Please see attached.

@RDAOU, thanks! And sorry for the late reply...
I completely agree with you that I need to practice the families tutorials more so I better understand the constraints. In fact, this is what I am doing and tried to build this sliding door I have in my flat but it seems the tutorial I based on does not cover the issues I am having... This is the tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVxLWXAD-cY
Could you suggest me a good tutorial for families?
Thanks!

hi, i already open your file and do some changes. 1)remove your referance plane and create new one. 2) remove your frame/mullion and create new sweep profile change location and lock to the reference plane. I attached your file back. hope it helps. thanks

here are some tutorial a simple parameter door.
