Dimension issue Revit LT 2019

The dimension function is not working for me, the top option shows the data and lines but will not stay visible when going to other functions. The bottom one shows no value and is just a line that disappears on mouse click.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong here?, tried many online videos but none show this issue. thanks Dave

That's the Measure Tool not the Dimension Tool.

...may I also point out that there are two Measure tools: Measure Between Two Elements (the one you are currently using) and Measure Along Element.

You need the button right below the tape measure, which is called 'Dimension', shortcut DI

You know, I can see how it would be confusing to a brand new user. The Dimension tool is located on the "Measure" Panel. I never noticed this before.  But I normally access it through the Quick Access Toolbar -- or keyboard shortcut, as you mentioned.

thank you for the tip, I did see this but was using 'linear' and not 'aligned'.
