Dimension from linked element to Revit element

Hi all,

We're having kind of a weird problem with dimensions in our Revit-model.

The architectural model (IFC) is linked into Revit 2022, and the engineers now create MEP elements in Revit.

The weird thing is:

We could not create any dimensions from a Revit element to a linked element with the IFC as an Underlay.

With the IFC as an Attachment, we can create dimensions from the linked element to the center line of (some of) the Revit elements, but when starting from the Revit element, we cannot snap to the linked element.

The weirder thing is: this used to work both ways in Revit 2021, even with the IFC as an Underlay. And with all families, which stayed the same (but just got a version upgrade).

Anyone else encountered this problem? Or any suggestion on settings I should be checking?

Thank you!

Dear @emma.nuytsSJ6TS ,

I think the problem might be that the IFC file contains elements that have very small inclinations (angles) that you cannot see with your eyes. This is why when you start from the wall which is inclined then you take a center which is a point it works, but when you start from the point that takes an orthogonal direction and tries to snap the wall it doesn't work.

Please if this helped you solve your issue mark as answer to help others

Sincerely

Mahmoud Zeidan

Hi @Mahmoud.Ziedan ,

Thank you for the help, this indeed seems to be the problem.

But now the next problem is: not all our families have a center point, so we can never snap to these elements.

So what is the workflow for buildings that have non-orthogonal walls? Do we really have to add center points to all our families, just to be able to create dimensions?
