Dialogue boxes going behind the main window

Sometimes my dialogue boxes (export, print, save...) will go behind the main window untill I click the main window.

If the task is done by responding to a series of dialogue boxes every dialogue box first appears behind the main window and I have to click anywhere on the main window to call the dialogue boxes to the front.

It will not stop until i restart my Revit. Is there any solution for this.

It is Revit 2017

It's a funny problem .. I cant take a screen shot of something hidingSmiley (überglücklich)

Lets say when you click save the save as dialogue box should appear right? but instead it goes behind the revit window. When I click any where on my revit window that's when it comes to the front. It appluies to any action that requires a dialogue box such as printing, creating schedule or set the properties of a wall..

It's the OS losing focus of the active window (dialog box).  Usually a reboot will fix it better than just restarting Revit.

This happens quite frequently with me running on a brand new $3000+ HP comp at work with Revit 2016. The problem is only resolved with a Revit restart which can be really time consuming when it takes 30min just to open one of our projects on our server. Is this really the only solution?

Hard to tell.  I would go through the list of the program /utility running in the computer background and disable them one by one to check.  If you have some screen utility from AMD or nVidia to divide screen workspaces, or something from a mouse software that drives your pointer to the most active window automatically, then those should be on the top of the list to check.

Try to bump up your screen resolution. A lot of time hidden dialog boxes will make their appearance if the resolution is high enough.

Have you been using two monitors and you switched to a single one recently, or have you played with the screen resolution lately? This could help.

My Revit 2017 has the same intermittent problem. I have Revit running on one monitor and other apps running on the other one. But if I try to drag a window to the Revit side, it goes behind Revit. I will open Outlook on one monitor but creating a new email opens on the other monitor and gets hidden behind Revit. Revit dialog boxes get hidden. The screenshot shows this explorer Window going behind Revit. Resolution or running Revit full screen has nothing to do with it. It will be fine for days and then poof! Exiting Revit will correct the problem, for the time being. This is a random "feature". It will drive one crazy. I am also using Windows 10.

I managed to resolve the issue by changing some display settings in the "nView Desktop Manager" application (comes with nVidia graphic cards).

Here is how I did it:

- Right-click on my Desktop to open "nView Desktop Manager"

- Go to nView/Windows Manager

- Uncheck the option "Enable child window spanning across multiple displays"

This fixed the issue immediately. No need to restart my Revit session. Problem solved.

If you have another GPU brand, I guess the problem is similar and similar origins (not a Revit issue, but a Windows graphics issue handled by your GPU). I hope this helps. Cheers.

I solved this by right clicking the taskbar and selecting Cascade Windows.

The dialogue box immediately came to the front and I was able to proceed with the command.
