Developing Acoustic Product Files For Other Designers To Use In Revit

I am an industrial designer at a company that makes acoustic products: baffles, grid tiles, clouds, wall panels, etc...

I am trying to develop 3D Revit files for our site that enables designers looking at our products to download them and use them in the space they are working on. I am wondering if someone can point me in the right direction because I am learning Revit as go. All of the products are modeled in rhino.

Some questions I have are:

1. Should I just Import the isolated Rhino File and save it as and RFA? Would that be Enough?

2. Is there anything else I should add that would be beneficial for designers loading these products into a space?

  • Many users would not like that considering the fact that they will not be able to edit the form or manipulate it. However, manufacturers as well as Revit content creators continue to do that because they consider such families are a proprietary product. And to be honest, more than that is not really required and it is not in your best interest when contractors or designers are able to alter or modify your product (dimensions/shape/material...)

  • What else to add:
    1. If you will go ahead with the Directshape from Rhino strategy, the material/color pallet (family types) would be a plus
    2. Adding the necessary shared parameters required for technical info/COBie/Ifc ..etc would also be great
