Detail views vs callouts

Hi,

Hoping for an explanation on this lingering views question.

I would like to create some sort of expanded callout showing how my gridlines align to my model elements, so I create a new callout.

Why would this new view get sorted into floor plans? I would expect that it would be created as a detail view, because that's what it is trying to be.

It's not as helpful to me to have it added as another floor plan because it's not really a whole floor plan, its just a tiny detail view. So is there a different way to set up views like the one I have described?

Thanks for the help,

C

Because you didn't create a Detail. Select the Detail Type not Floor Plan Type.

...or change your Project Browser Organization.

They are two View types. They could both serve the purpose of detailing. I would personally use them as follows:

  1. Plan Callout for detailing Plan views/layout (for the VR graphics advantage)
  2. Detail Layout for Sections and Elevations

There are 5 major differences between the 2 type are

  1. Plan Callouts get a the standard View Range + Depth Clipping VS Detail view has only Far clip Settings (which can be a major disadvantage for the latter because it effects the visibility graphics of components)
  2. Plan Callouts get Underlay setting VS Detail Callout Not
  3. Plan Callouts cannot be hidden for scales coarser than XXX vs Detail Callout Can be
  4. Plan Callouts get Wall Join Display option vs Detail Callout Not
  5. Plan Callouts support View References Detail Callout Not

There are other differences but in my opinion are minor
