Detail item on sloped surface (roof, plane etc)

hi mugglesFrau (Zunge)

I'm wokring with a 3D family (sprinkler) that has a Detail component nested only for visibility purposes on Floor Plan.
I've sprinklers on both: a flat roof and a sloped one:Sprinklers on Roofs.JPG

Sprinklers are all placed on the face of a surface meaning they're perpendicular to the roof plane. If roof is horizontal Floor plan visibility works ok. However, if roof is sloped I can only see the detail item if the spinkler is hosted on an horizontal plane as I show below:DetailOK.JPG

If the sprinkler is placed on the sloped roof surface the detail item will now show on Floor plan:

DetailNotOK.JPG

This is logic, since the workplane of the detail item is not paralell to the flor and therefore the floor plan.

Any turnaroud for this? I would like to work with detail item visibility within 3D families and not relying on ther host plane slope.

Thanks!Frau (überglücklich)

Check Work Plane Based and uncheck Always Vertical

Thank s bradley.
I've done that before and I manage to host the sprinkler on a non-vertical face. However I still cannot see the detail item on floor plan.

You would have to place the detail component on a reference plane that you can tilt up and down in the project environment to make it always horizontal regardless of the host. Easier said than done.

The other way around is keeping the detail horizontal and tilting the model element.

Really? It was easier done than said for me.

You mean Ceiling Plan; right?

Can you host a sprinkler head on a sloped ceiling and have the model align to the slope, but the detail component still show on the RCP or floor plan?

Not following you, @ToanDN.  Did you see my Screenshots; Section and RCP?

Both worked. The second one was easier done.

I did struggle a bit woth the first one. Thanks!Frau (fröhlich)

@barthbradley and @ToanDN. massive help from you both.

So I get a solution credit; right?  Or no?

Out of curiosity:  How is it so difficult to place a checkmark in the box next to Work Plane Based  and uncheck the box next to Always Vertical?  Moreover, how does @ToanDN's approach even make sense.  Unless your looking for more billable hours. Is that it?  If that's the case, I'm sure, given the opportunity, I could come up with an even more convoluted, nonsensical  approach.

where is this option?

Hi,

can you please tell me how you did it? Did you create ref plane in family with angle parameter and then attach detail item to 3D family and then from project set the angle yo needed? Or did you have 3D family in main project(this family you attach to sloped surface) and then 2D family (detail item) alone in main project which you draw on the top of 3D family? When i create ref. plane and then i set to this ref plane detail item and want to rotate plane revit show error: Symbolic Element refers to a Work Plane with unacceptable normal.

Thanks

Best wishes

Hi,

I was reading your solution but i can not undertand it.

i have the same problem, a detail item is not showing in an element sloped in this case is not hosted to a ceiling.

can you described the steps for the solution?

i much appreciate it.

Hi, Sorry for the late answer but could you post some screens about the solution? Thank you so much!
