Detail Item inside a Profile

The idea is to show casing for the thread of a steel stairs. I have placed a detail component (DC) inside a profile family, but it does not show in section when loaded and added to a stairs. However, if I use the same profile for a wall sweep, the DC will show? 

Does Revit allow this? If not, any workaround? Surely its a basic feature!

Isn't that a little too thin?  Turn Thin Lines OFF and tell me.

Sorry, should have said that. I've tried that, along wiith with multiple DCs (shapes and sizes) placed inside outside of the thread profile. 

I suppose the question is, should it be visible on a stairs? Have you witnessed it work before, or can you replicate it?

I think you missed my point. Is that a single line or several lines representing a very thin casing.  If the latter, that LOD will be lost when Thin Lines is turned OFF.  Get it.  I would save that LOD for Detail Views.  Maybe 1"=1" (half-kidding). 😉

Its representing a thin casing, so its 2mm or so. Anyway, its nothing to do with the LOD or heavy lines. Here's another DC imported into the family. Lumber DC straight out of the box. 

Again, it does not show in the stairs.

After more testing, it appears to only show up on a Wall Sweep or Slab Edge only. It does not show on a railing, a reveal or a thread. Thats all i tested.

So the question is, how do you show detail in the Thread?

I never said it didn't show up because of that.  I was just remarking that it's a lot of teeny tiny line work to put into the tread profile. But if that's what you want, then maybe apply the casing via Railing. Yes, I'm serious. You could model the tread casing as a baluster in a Rail Type with balusters place at each Tread.
