Detail family types best practice

Hi,

What is the best practice for managing multiple types of the the same family when the types can no be controlled by parameters?

The example below are type of the same post, yet are all different. They cannot be scaled or controlled dimensionally.

The 3 ways I can think of to control these family types are:

1. Individual Detail family for each type.

2. All types as lines in 1 family and controlled with visibility parameters.

3. All types as nested families in 1 parent family, controlled by 'Family Type' parameter.

Option 1 has the smallest file size, option 2 is easier for other users to understand, option 3 is the best option in my opinion but would love to know your thoughts and work practices for such examples.

What's wrong with 3 separate families like you are showing in your screenshot?

Different families. Keep it simple and painless.

Absolutely that is a solution.
At the moment, for continuity of how families display in the project properties menu. I prefer to keep them in a parent family. This way they display the same as a parametric family, with all family types listed under a single parent family.
However my current way creates is more work as I have to create an additional parent family to host all the individual families.
Just wanting to know opinions.

If you want to keep all options in one family then nest them in one family, create a Family type parameter (label) to have a dropdown list to choose which one to show in project.

Simple is best...but defining simple...not so...simple haha.

+1 for @toan nesting and controlling with a Family Types drop down list.

Yep this is how I am doing it currently.
I guess this post was just to confirm I was not completely wasting my time, although it is quite time consuming for something that seems so simple. Do it once, do it right.
