Deleting a parameter

I am working in a template file I created some time ago. I would like to create a calculated parameter for the rough opening of the door on the door schedule called RO Width. "Rough Width" is a built-in parameter so I couldn't use that terminology. Apparently, I have already created this "RO Width" a long time ago and it is already a shared parameter (see screenshot). When I checked all the shared parameters available to the current file, I do not see an "RO Width" listed there. How can delete this existing "RO Width" parameter so I can recreate it as a calculated parameter. It would be great to avoid creating a bunch of different terms for Rough Width. Thanks in advance for any help.

You do not need to delete it... simply export it to the sharedparamerter file... when you edit the file it will be under a section/group for exported parameters .. from there you can move to the group u want ie; doors

Okay, I exported it to my shared parameters file. Now I would like to make
it a calculated parameter. It doesn't seem to want to let me do this. Wish
there was a way to delete this parameter and start over. Thanks for your
help.

If you just need it as a calculated parameter in a schedule in the project then just add the calculated parameter to the schedule, no need for a shared parameter.

If you want the calculated parameter in the family then you do need to add the shared parameter and give it a formula.

@mcobb

I was assuming that it being a shared parameter and the Rough Height, you would want it to be in the Door Family...IE: Edit the door family, Add the shared RO Height to therein...Set a formula >>>Apply >>> Load back to the project.

Then you can use that PRE-calculated value in schedules and in Tags...considering that it is something you will use more often, and the tag might be useful, the family is where it belongs...or not? What do you think?

Right. I actually did not need it to be a shared parameter. I wanted to create a field that was available as a calculated parameter in the schedule. I still would like to know how to get rid of a parameter that is showing up as a shared parameter in the list of possible fields to populated a schedule. Nevertheless, the info about exporting shared parameters was helpful and did help me resolve the issue for the time being. Thank you.

Hi ToanDN. You got it, I just need it to be a calculated parameter. I was also trying to avoid redundant nomenclature so I wanted to get rid of this shared parameter that had  a similar name. It (the wayward shared parameter) was showing up in my list of available schedule fields but it was also (strangely) not showing up in my list of shared parameters loaded into my project file.

Mike
