Defining constraints for detail / model lines.

When creating families, I often need to add some simple detail or model lines to them. I usually want the beggining as well the end of the line to be at the intersection of reference lines / reference planes. Therefore when placing the line, a choose the snap which is responsible for the intersection to be the starting / ending point of the line.

Unfortunately when I change dimensions of the object, the line ends do not follow the intersections that they were created with. The constraints that are proposed automatically by the program not always satisfy the needs and adding a simple >|< symbol on the drawer takes a lot of trail and error.

Is there a simple way to make the lines listen to the contraints?

Are the endpoints of the lines locked to the intersection that you want them to stay attached to?

I feel your pain. But yes, there is a simple way.

Instead of trying to get model lines to align/lock to two different intersecting planes, which can be a headache and then breaks anyway...

Instead let your model lines connect to the endpoints of reference lines that you put down to control the ends. Like so...

Really, for lines such as are used to denote door swings, whereas they are only displayed in a view normal to the surface, try using Symbolic lines in the family instead of Model Lines.

Hi sir,

Do i have to lock the reference line to reference plane?

As i just draw the model line from start to end of one reference line, it does not work.
