I have recently upgraded to Revit 2020 as well as receiving a new client mandated template file. When I place (drag) views onto the sheet they default to no view title and I have to manually change the type. Is this a Revit 2020 thing or this file created by others? How do I change this setting?

Sounds like the permanent default Viewport 1 doesn't have a Title assigned to it. Assign one.

Hello,

This is related to the template done by the client.

The default view port can't be changed and whenever you drag anew view it will take the same viewport type (which is in your case, without title).

But there is a trick:

assume that the default viewport type is called VP1

1- Duplicate the default viewport type. So you have a new Type. Let's call it VP2

2- Rename the default viewport type VP1 to another new name(VP3). then edit it to show the desired title family.

3-Rename VP2 changing it to VP1.

Now whenever you will add a new view it will take the properties of VP3 which shows a title.

and still you have the VP1.

I hope that above is clear enough.

No need to constantly change the Viewport Type. Just assign View Title to the Viewport that is used. It's a one-time operation.

I solved on my own. The suggestions below address how to add or edit title properties, but that was not the question. What needed to be modified was the default tag associated with views. Under "Loaded Tags and Symbols" the tag under "Views" needed to be changed to the view title that had a title.

Thanks.

That is setup by your client, probably with the intention that users need to carefully choose the correct viewport type for each view placed on sheet. It is not uncommon that there are multiple viewport types in a project.

If I were you I would clarify with the client first before set a specific viewport with a specific view title as default.

Really??? Where was all this information about "Load Tags and Symbols" in your original post?  What I read was "When I place (drag) views onto the sheet they default to no view title and I have to manually change the type. How do I change this setting?"

Assign a View Title to the Viewport Type is the correct answer.

you are correct in that you need to assign a view title to viewport type. But where in Revit is the setting to for when you drag a view onto a sheet, which viewport type does it choose to use?

I have tried the "loaded tags and symbols" but that does not change anything for me?

Same here, "Loaded Tags and Symbols" did not change the default viewport title type for me when I drag new views onto a sheet. So far I have not found a solution for this.

Hi there

Was just looking at this issue myself and came across this post so thought to help as it is still recent...

I found the solution for what you are referring to in another forum called "Revit Forum".  The solution was posted by Super_Myke and I think it directly address your issue...  Solution is as follows:

Start by going to a sheet and click on a view (should work with anything except schedules) that was placed on the sheet.  Then click on "Edit Type".  Under type "Type" selector pull-down simply select the view template that you'd like to be the default.  What ever reads in that bar when you are done will be the default view title for all views until it is changed again.

Tried it and this doesn't work as well. Anyone found a solution yet?

Trying to set this right in the company template.

Revit is set to no title as default. You have to rename the no title as title, and the title as no title. then change the parameter title to match. Stupid but it works!

This renaming is the only thing that worked for me. Thanks for the tip.

how did you get to this menu?

How did I get to what menu?  You mean the Type Selector?  In this case, select a Viewport Family and look on the Properties Pallet. You can replace it with another one shown in the drop-down Preview Selector or edit and modify the Propeties of the selected one, or edit, duplicate and replace the selected one and a brand new one.

Click on the title, In the properties pull down of the viewport title, then edit type.

Hi,

I created tutorial on how to change default viewport title. It is not solution to the original question of this thread but shows the process that some of the other members of discussion were looking for:

basically you cannot change it but you need to simply modify the default to act as the one you'd like? Is that correct? What a joke.

Yes, you described it correctly. Revit sometimes makes you come up with creative solutions šŸ™‚

Do you need someone to do it for you?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
