We are using the default glass sliding door available in the US imperial library. I have tried to turn on every conceivable vg setting yet the frame will not appear. Anyone know how to show the frame universally in the project? Why does it seem like this is the only door/window that does this?

Have you check the setting in the family?
Edit the door family and check the VG setting for the frame. It might be hidden in Front/back, Left/Right(elevation/section), Plan/RCP, etc.
That works for elevations but not plans - how do I show the frame in plan?
How do you check this? I open vg settings in the family in a plan view but everything is checked
Have you checked the Visibility Settings for the Trim Geometry? also whether or not it has a Visibility Parameter assigned it?
Thanks but its showing a tiny sliver of a frame - would be nice if it cut through the whole wall like it would do in real life
You need to check Plan/RCP for Trim geometry (if you want it visible in Plan) and delete the Trim Detail Items in Plan View.
I apologize if I confused you. It’s in the Properties after you select the frame geometry, not the shortcut VG setting. The one which control the visibility in Plan/RCP, Front/Right, Coarse,Medium, Fine etc. I’m on my phone and can’t remember the exact name. Visitility/Graphics Setting something like that.
