Default Sill Height Parameter

Can anyone explain the purpose of the "Default Sill Height" parameter. It's a default parameter for a window family, but it's not hard-coded, i.e. I can delete it. When starting a new window, this value is set to 800mm.

I have a few window families which no longer have this parameter and they still function. So why would I keep this parameter in the other families?

The Room Location Point is not linked to this parameter either. No matter what the value of the Default Sill Heights is, the RLP stays at 800mm.

So you can define the default height of the sill value when a new window is inserted into the model. Saves time compared to: placing a window -> entering sill, placing a window -> entering sill, and so on... Instead, you set the window's default sill height as a family type once and then place all your windows.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

Want to have some fun?  A learning exercise?

Create a Legend View and insert the Window Plan View Component (the one with Default Sill Height).  Now, select the Window in the Project Browser, right-click and press Type Properties.  Now play around with different Default Sill Heights and see how they effect the Legend Component.
