I have just down loaded REvitLt17 and I am getting the following message:
The path you have specified for the default family template files is invalid.
I have tried to repair and have reinstalled and the problem still persists, this is my third day trying to resolve this matter...please help.
Ive just tried the following:
Control panel - programs and features - autodesk Revit LT 2017 Content Libraries 2017 - uninstall/change - add or remove features - The content box opens and in the box it says CONTENT Pack- the content pack is empty.

Hello @malachy
What did you reinstall, Revit LT 2017 or the Revit LT 2017 Content Libraries?
If it was Revit, please try uninstalling and reinstalling the Content Libraries using the original installer (USB Media or download).
Then please take a look at this topic and follow the steps: Revit: Templates and families not installed
Let me know what steps of the above did you go through, and what were the results.
Best regards,
Have you tried going into the options/File Locations and repath the location to the proper place?
Default should be similar to Revit 2017 C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\Family Templates\
Hi - I have tried all of the fixes on the Autodesk knowledge base, the fixes that you noted here, as well as uninstalling the program, cleaning the computer, emptying the downloads in Mozilla Firefox, and reinstalling. I have now lost at least 5 hours of my life that I will never get back! Not to mention the fact that I have 27 days left on the free trial, and I can't even open up a template to learn how to use this thing.
The Content folder will simply not download or install.
I am sad, because I guess this means that I can't try Revit LT 2017 now, and I was really hoping that it would be a great program. I think that if you can't even download and install it easily, what will it be like when I try to actually use it!
This is for the 2016 libraries...but you can copy them to the 2017 folders and it will work too. It's the only manual method I know of.
Autocad has nothing to do with Revit... Autodesk on the other hand...
It works for a lot of people, some people not. Incorrect permissions, differences in hardware, Operating systems, knowledge of how installations work, etc can cause issues.
The Revit LT 2017 install worked flawlessly for me...but I made sure I had pleny of space to install, UAC disabled, AV disabled, Ran as administrator, etc..
We've recently identified a sporadic issue that will result in content not being installed via the Revit LT 2017 web installer. After our investigation, we found that a required content file is not always included in the extracted files and its absence results in the installation bypassing Revit content files. We are investigating the root cause of this problem and hope to have a resolution in place soon. Until then, the following steps will allow you to work around this issue:
At this point, we've only seen this problem occur with the Revit LT 2017 web installer but based on the numerous reports of Revit content installation problems, a similar problem may impact other Revit versions, including previous releases. For this reason, I've attached zip files that contain the master XML files for each version of Revit 2015, 2016, and 2017. Once the appropriate master XML file is extracted and copied to the appropriate ...\Content\Revit folder, the installation of Revit content should complete successfully.

FYI, this problem still exists (wrt the date of posting this comment).
And also the solution indicated above by Tony_Michniewicz still works.
Same for 2018 as well, luckily enough, been wrapping Autodesk products for a corporate with their admin wrapper for a few years, so used the the flakey admin images/wrappers for all products, as well as all the 'work-a-rounds'
Simply need more/longer development sprints.
One day..........

Your DWG file may be from a vertical variant such as Civil3D, AutoCAD Architecture, MEP. Open the DWG in the authoring program and export it to AutoCAD, then link or import the exported file to Revit.
