Cut Geometry Stairs- Precast Stair Family

Hi Team,

This is driving me Crazy; I have been trying to cut a stair all day.

I tried using a model in place, Void, but the cut tool does not select the stairs.

I tried with a generic model family, and the same thing

happened in the end; I tried using a cut profile, but it only works in an elevation, and it is a representation only that does not cut the geometry

I can believe Revit can not do it. It's something straightforward.

Any Ideas?

Alejandro

Cheers

I incline to say Revit can't really handle it for now. might want to consider using alternative methods to model stairs, like model-in-place which I saw in some jobs. Even though it won't flex with level changes anymore, pretty much you can change the geometry of the stairs in any way.

you see, stairs are not one of them.

Hi @BimAmbit

I can see this problem is not new. I have to do it in that way (generic model). However, if I do it like that, I miss tools like Tread numbers. The path, in a few words, is not a stair anymore; it's a generic model that looks like a stair.

What is the point of having a Precast Stair Family if there is no way to use it like a precast item, like generating a Shop Drawing with the tool, getting volume, or something simple like assembly views? This would make it difficult to manage the information and views of the stairs.

Cheers

Alejandro

frustrating indeed. But if I were you, I’d just use native stairs and leave some line marks thats good enough for drawing production then pay a bit more attention during clash test.

That could be an option; however, how do I get things like volume (not even in the parameters) and assembly view? Suppose I do that on a regular sheet. In that case, it will take me ages to finish it without mentioning primary data like material (I cannot even set materials like concrete), volume, and weight. Is there an option to make it work properly?

Cheers

Alejandro

Volume can be found in "Schedule" -> "Material Takeoff" -> "Stairs" -> "Material: Volume" while you need to factor in the voids that are not cutting. Material can be assigned in "Edit Types". You can always use a locked 3D view to mimic an assembly view of a particular angle.
