Customer uses Revit Version 16 but I have 17 thru 2020 only help!!

I have a subscription that includes Revit Version 17 thru 2020, but my customer sends me model that was created in 16.

It takes 20 to 40 minutes to upgrade the model from 16.

I tried to download Revit version 16, but it only gives the educational version or one that ask for key.

Seems that since I'm legal to run 17 thru 2020, I should be able to run 16 to save time. Time is $$

Any ideas how I can get version 16?

Thanks for any help!!

If you previously had a 2016 license, sure you can continue to use it.  It just isn't supported by Autodesk any longer.  If you never owned 2016 and don't have the software, then you are out of luck.  Unless, maybe you can get it from the client.  Might try contacting your reseller too.

Another idea --- and I've use this one myself -- help the client pay for an upgraded version.  If the contract is lucrative enough, it might be worth it.

The software is available, but only as education teacher or student. Just seems peculiar that I am licensed with a higher version but cannot get the lower version. Thought forum would be a quicker solution than 45 minutes of listening to that “on hold” scratchy music and also I can keep working while answers come in. Thanks for your advice, I might have to call in if no solutions here.

you need to tell your client what version your using

with revit there is no backwards compatibility so this should have been brought up on which version is required

if you read the terms & conditions it tells you only have access to the current version plus 3 versions back

The client should be aware (as well as you) of the limitations of using older software in a collaborative environment.

As to the upgrade time, it shouldn't take that long unless it's a huge project and/or multiple files. Also, your file is not going to be compatible with their model.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

This is correct, the current version plus 3 back is supported. If you need access to an older version and are on subscription, you can contact your reseller/Autodesk and you maybe granted permission to access older versions but this is decided on a case by case basis.
